1v1: Exum v Dallo, Gordon v Harrell
In this special edition of 1v1, we look at two top guard prospects and two top forward prospects
Dante Exum
Boris Dallo
Aaron Gordon
Montrezl Harrell
Dante Exum
Strengths | Weaknesses |
One of the hardest working players in the world | Remains to be seen whether he can develop an outside shot |
One of the best defenders around | Doesn't seem likely to become the PG everyone hopes he can be |
Able to score at a CSL level now | Pretty skinny still, will get outmuscled by most guards |
Is well rounded, could easily post a few triple doubles | For a #1 scorer, he avoids contact a bit too much |
Strengths | Weaknesses |
An excellent passer already | Very raw overall, bit of a project player |
Great rebounder for his position | Has games where he does everything right, then disappears the next game |
Already has a good understanding of the game | Terrible mechanics on his jumpshot |
A plus defender who can also generate turnovers | Does not get to the free throw line at all |
Strengths | Weaknesses |
Jack of all trades, can play multiple positions | Pretty loose with the ball right now |
Snags offensive boards for breakfast lunch and dinner | Poor shot mechanics, free throw % is absurdly bad |
Does a great job putting his opponent in foul trouble | Defense not as polished for someone touted as a defensive prospect |
Has great touch in the lane, can score with either hand | Fairly poor shot selection |
Strengths | Weaknesses |
Hands down one of the best finishers in college | Has had some clashes with teammates |
Physical and strong, fights hard for rebounds | Doesn't time his block attempts well, ends up missing a lot |
Above average dribbling skills for a player of his size | A wild player who finds himself in foul trouble frequently |
Great defender, contests shots and keeps his man in front of him | Looks like he'll never develop a true post game or go-to offensive move |

Being an Australian and all, Exum is high on my radar.

Not real high on Harrell or Gordon - Dallo is interesting, but I hate PGs who can't shoot. I don't mind if they won't shoot (Kendall Marshall) as a result of low SCR, but when they can't shoot, that sucks.
Exum is obsiously an interesting prospect, but again, a SG who can't hit the three really requires a team to build around that weakness.
Obviously, an Exum/MKG back court means I'd get zoned like hell - just not that interested.

Exum sounds really good... But damn, I really wish he could shoot.

Funny thing is, Marshall's probably averaging around 14-15 PPG for us as a 54 scorer (I'd have to check the numbers though). And that's with Porter and McGary both averaging 18 a game.

Re: 1v1: Exum v Dallo, Gordon v Harrell
The main problem is this year all players have the same flaw in their game: shooting. From the TOP 10, only Stauskas can hit the 3 ball at a nice clip, and I see his stock raising till draft time because of that. Won't be surprised if he's picked 4th-7th behind Embiid, Adams, Exum and maybe one or 2 of those PFs (Vonleh, Harrell, Gordon..)

One of the biggest reasons why I had no problem dealing my pick. This is like the anti-Jestorball draft.
