Wiggins Watch - Post All-Star Break 1581441_orig
Wiggins had to look good as he headed to the All-Star Weekend Festivities

We check in once again with the young superstar (yes, we said superstar) for the Orlando Magic.  This time we catch up with him as he has had a few days recovery after his first all-star weekend.

Wiggins played in the Rookie vs. Sophomore challenge along with other Magic members.  Wiggins was joined on the Rookie squad by Magic starting point guard and recently traded for Vasilije Micic.  Across the floor, Nerlens Noel was part of the Sophomore squad but even more interesting was Wiggins sidekick Giannis Antetokounmpo would start against him at the small forward position.

When the smoke cleared, the Sophomores ran the Rookies out of the building, destroying them by a 167 - 131 score.  It was true what many had said about this year's draft class…pretty weak.  Wiggins being guarded by a Giannis though was one of the few bright spots for the Rookies.  Wiggins poured in 31 points in the loss on 14 of 28 shooting.  The Magic were obviously happy with the result considering they feel Giannis is their most well rounded player on the roster.  Andrew Wiggins shared a few words after the game.

Andrew Wiggins wrote:
Man, when I heard that Giannis and I were going to be going one on one, my heart skipped a beat.  It's weird, you know.  We are teammates and suddenly we are facing one another in more than just practice.  Giannis is very talented and he played me well.  He did a great job keeping me off the boards and man, I knew that guy could pass but being the one defending him was really tough.  It was fun though.  It was my first all-star game and I hope I can participate in more.  I'll take the play-offs over the all-star game though (laughing).

The next two games saw the Magic lose at home to the Division leading Atlanta Hawks 118-100 and on the road by almost the exact same score 119-100 to the Mavericks.  Wiggins did set a new career high though against the Mavs when he put up 46 points on 17 of 30 shooting.  The real story of these games though was Giannis Antetokounmpo straining his calf which will sideline the young star for another 10 days.

If all things continue as they are going, it will be a long grind till the end of the season for the Magic.  One though that again is building the foundation of the team and shaping the future.

The curious case of rookies that are too good to be rookies... Both Smart and Wiggins are ridiculous.

But you know what's happened with the last few Magic stars (Dwight, TMac and Shaq)? They left. Wink

Is it possible for Wiggins to have an even better second season than Smart?
