Year/Contract Off
Alright so here's the deal:
When we did end of year processing (moving from June 18th to June 20th), the game is supposed to roll over contracts to the next year, increase everyone's age by a year, increase everyone's experience by 1, and bird rights are supposed to go up by 1, and cap holds are supposed to be put into effect (expiring contracts become 1.5x their last year's worth).
What happened though, was the date went back to 2013. So the age and experience increased by 1, but contracts went back a year. Which means there are NO expiring contracts and everyone's roster is staying exactly the same.
There are a few possible solutions.
We can simulate a year in advance, while reversing all player's ages and experience by a year so that way it will be back to the right number next year. The two downsides to this are 1) one year of fake history and 2) players will see their ratings develop/regress as usual, despite only doing this sim to get us back to where we should be.
We can correct everything in the database. However, (I've tried everything I can think of) we won't be able to have cap holds and it seems as though most teams will lose their bird rights on their players.
My suggested solution is this: we use PAs this free agency so that way we don't have to worry about the game correctly calculating bird rights. Players will remain on the roster with their cap hold sized contract, until they are renounced or signed in FA. Once they are renounced, their contract will be deleted in the database. All these players will be FAs (there will be a list of them on the forum) so that way there won't be any confusions. This would involve correcting everything in the database as well.

Suggestion #2 would be optimal.
No fake history, no unnecessary progression/ regression, with the use of PA's which was the initial plan going into 2014.

Re: Year/Contract Off
Bird rights are simply a function of whether or not you can offer 4-5 years and 4.5%-7.5% raises - that should be easy to track through a PA free agency process. (I'm already tracking in excel).
The final solution proposed is the easiest and I don't foresee any issues with it, since everyone will be on an even playing field.
Best solution given the circumstances.

Just like Willy and SS said. PA should be the best solution.
Especially given the circumstances.

The last one. Player agents are a great idea imo and I really thought putting it off a year didn't make sense, but I'd be all for them coming back. Also, no fake history or regression

Re: Year/Contract Off
You create far more problems by having a year of fake history than anything else so that's the option that shouldn't be taken under any circumstances.

As well as going over the cap to resign players using bird exceptions. That was the big one for me.

Re: Year/Contract Off
The 'easiest' solution for you guys having to do all the work is OK for me.
A fake year could be a factor, but I also preferred not having PA yet, so I'm OK with either one.
It's a pity that tweaking the database isn't enough to revert the problem, I was praying for it. I thought Bird Years was the last column of the database and that it wasn't going to be a problem to restore it, but if finally looks like the engine doesn't think the same

I'm not a fan of a fake history year as well.

Re: Year/Contract Off
Did you try re-rolling from the end of the Finals? I'm pretty sure it's just a glitch.
We'd have to input trades again but isn't that easier than editing the db?

You would think if there is a file from after the playoffs, forwarding again wouldn't glitch every time would it?

Re: Year/Contract Off
I remember, I would always have a backup league file after the playoffs were finished due to the fact that DDS games are so glitchy...

Re: Year/Contract Off
Just off the top of my head and I haven't thought this through but I don't see how using PA's is an option anyway with the database editing involved. Players need to be cut I assume and then cut salaries will stay with teams (yeah for one season only but for dumping/total salary this is still an issue for this season) then signed to the correct teams with contracts edited? Not sure that solves anything.

I think we should try to re-sim after the finals
but if that is not an option then I agree with most - PA, no fake history

I rename the file I download after every sim (CSL2_sim47.rar etc..) and I have them all saved, so I should have the file after the playoffs for sure.
If needed just let me know ;)I also think your idea of re-siming could work
