Round 2 - Pick 44 - Phoenix Suns Empty Round 2 - Pick 44 - Phoenix Suns

Post by Jestor (LAL) Sat Mar 08, 2014 8:48 pm

Thus far in this draft, the Phoenix Suns have drafted a hybrid forward praised for his shooting talents and scoring potential, a sharp-shooting point guard with potentially intriguing passing upside and solid defense, and a long point guard able to play three positions off the bench and with a high degree of intelligence. So what awaits them at Pick #44? At this point in the draft, there's just two natural centers and four natural point guards left, leaving the majority of available players as swings or hybrid forwards, given that most of the remaining PFs are undersized, and likely fall into the hybrid category.

"We need defense," said one scout. "AB15 and Kendall might be okay on defense, but the Frenchman can't play D so well, and we especially need a defender/shotblocker/rebounder in the paint for when Kendrick Perkins is either traded or gets renounced after this season."

"We're talking about pick 44. You see any guys left who fit that bill?" sneered another.

"Nope. It's fresh out," the original scout ruefully confirmed. "So we're looking for a roleplayer."

"Defense is pretty well picked over, period," commented the director of combine scouting. "Unless you want to go blind on a raw guy and hope he has some upside we didn't get a chance to check out."

"No... Let's save the fliers for #58 and #60," GM Jestor said from the head of the table. "There's still one guy whose current talent we like systemwise, so we'll go with what we do best."

"With the 44th overall selection in the 2014 draft, the Phoenix Suns select...

"Alessandro Gentile, shooting guard, Italy"

Jestor's remarks at the press conference announcing Phoenix's fourth selection of the draft:

Alessandro really stood out to us at the combine with his IQ, jumper, 3 point shot, and possibly readiness for a scoring knack off the bench. He also looked possibly ready to be able to grab some defensive rebounds, which is a need area for us. At absolute worst case scenario, we envision the Italian kid as someone who can play potentially play both wing spots, though with his handling as it is now, he'll probably back up Anthony Bennett at the 3. We've had a lot of success with foreign-born shooters in our system in the past, and it's our hope that Alessandro can continue that long, proud tradition.

Don't know anything about this guy. But you own #58 and 60? Since when? I thought those were Houston's?

I was looking at this guy actually, and did scout him - he may turn into a player that can come in and knock down some shots here and there.

There is a guy available that I am praying slips to me, what a steal it would be.

I was considering getting a 2nd to draft him. This guy is just awesome in RL, and aslo liked what I saw after scouting him (although I might be biassed Razz).

Son of the great lefty PG 'Nando' Gentile!

Just because you said that, I've gone over all the entrants, but I don't have any clue who you're talking about. It seems like there's no one left who has fallen out of the 1st round, so I'm assuming you just found some 2nd round prospect no one has heard of that has some great ratings or something like that.

I really don't see anything left...

Alessandro "Nando" Gentile was a excellent high range shooter (look European Winners Cup Competition in 1989). The son hasn't his father level, but...Jestor you steal my man!!!
