Heat Make 4th Trade Of Offseason; Ellis, Teague To South Beach
July 1, 2014
The trade comes just a day after the team acquired former lottery-pick James McAdoo, which reportedly made the Brazilian big man available.
"We're very excited to add two talented guards in Ellis and Teague," Heat GM Parka said. "It's been a position of overall weakness for us, so they should help us out a lot."
Ellis, the 2013 CSL Sixth Man of the Year, averaged 13.6 points, 3.6 assists, and 22.3 minutes off the bench last season, and is expected to be a key component of the Heat's bench this year.
"I feel good [about the trade]," Ellis said. "I love South Beach, and it's really great anytime you have the opportunity to play for a championship."
Another underrated piece in the deal was Teague, the third-year point guard who has seen steady improvement playing the backup role last season after spending his rookie year in the D-League.
"We were adamant about his inclusion [in the deal]," Parka said. "We really liked what he brings to the table, and it was something we needed with Mills gone."
The trade for Teague leaves the free agency situation with Isaiah Thomas in a tough spot. Reports have varied over the past couple of weeks; Parka has openly mentioned the team's determination to keep the young point guard, while other reports say that the team has secretly been looking at sign-and-trade offers.
"We'll cross that bridge when we come to it," Parka said. "For now, we just wanna welcome in the new guys and express our sincere gratitude to Tiago, who's really been nothing short of a great professional here despite not really having had the chance to showcase his skills. Best of luck to him in Chicago."

Best move this offseason for you imo, getting rid of Splitter for Ellis.
Now you have the clear option of bringing back Gasol which is looking more and more likely for you and the team direction looks more clear as well.

Going to be scary to see you add another legitimate scorer to your roster. Splitter was a luxury that you could do without. Like WJ said, bringing back Pau becomes a possibility.

You just had to get a Teague on your team, didn't you?
Seriously though, love this for you. Monta is a damn beast. I probably should have never traded him away.

Yeah, I feel like our bench lacked a real go-to scorer, so hopefully Ellis can help out there.

Brilliant move. With a point guy like Durant running the show, Monta should shine behind him.

Ellis should thrive and can play beside Shumpert giving flexibility in regards to the point guard position.
