Celtics Minute: Summer League Empty Celtics Minute: Summer League

Post by Dennis (BOS) Sat Mar 22, 2014 8:01 pm

It was a fun summer league for the Boston Celtics, sending 12 players to the tournament. Especially Alex Len, this years second overall pick, was the center of attention. Len is predicted to be the starting Center for the Celtics and is expected to see plenty minutes the upcoming season. Looking at scouting reports he seems to be one of the few more CSL ready rookies this year.

Celtics Minute: Summer League USATSI_7201108_164908770_lowres
21.2 Minutes, 10.4 Points, 4.0 Rebounds, 1.2 Assits, 1,2 BLK, 1.8TO, 58.8FG%, 13% STP, 0.9 PA/SF
PER 36, 17.7 Points, 6,8 Rebounds, 2,0 Assists, 2,0 BLKs

Len played a decent Summer League and we are hoping his statistics will be much better after trainingcamp. His bad STP% and decent rebounding could be explained by the fact he played PF for us. Nevertheless his scoring looks great, hopefully he will be the go-to-guy in the paint we need desperately. His shooting seems to be really efficient, Len was able to hit 59% of his attempts, hitting even 43% from downtown. It will be great to see, what he's able to do with a point guard like Schröder.

Celtics Minute: Summer League Schroeder-ranks-258
22 Minutes, 12 Points, 3.4 Rebounds, 5.6 Assits, 1 STL, 1.8 TO, 69%FG, 100%STP, 0.9PA/SF
PER 36: 19.6 Points, 5.6 Rebounds, 9.2 Assits, 2 STL, 2.8 TO

Man, Dennis looked great. Rondo on the rise? Last year Schröder was already great on the defensive end of the court but struggled on the other side. This summer league he showed what he's able to do with the right guys around him. 20/5.6/9.2 PER36 looks pretty impressive, on top he shot 69% from the field (67%3FG). He needs to protect the ball better, 2.8 TOs per game are way to high, but TC is right ahead, lets see if he is able to cut them down next year.

Celtics Minute: Summer League Bigeastside-articleLarge
22.2 Minutes, 13.8 Points, 7.8 Rebounds, 1 STL, 1.6 BLK, 60%FG, 100%STP, 0.6PA/SF
PER36: 22.4 Points, 12.6 Rebounds, 1.7 STL, 2.6 BLK

What a steal at #18! Or let us say, what a trade. Dieng was acquired via trade with Golden State. There wasnt such a great defensive minded Center left on the board when Golden State asked for a trade around Dieng and #18, so it was nearly a no brainer, and Gorgui already showed why. 14 Points in 22 Minutes are pretty unexpected but his 1.6 BLKS and 7.8 Boards are really impressive. He will be a great defensive anchor for our second unit, 0.6 PA/SF are just awesome.

Celtics Minute: Summer League Young-block
22 Minutes, 8.4 Points, 6.0 Rebounds, 1.6 BLKs, 36%FG, 56%STP, 0.8 PA/SF
PER36: 13.7 Points, 9.8 Rebounds, 2.6 BLKs

A lot people already questioned if it was the right decision to trade Vucevic for Shabazz (who struggled during Summer League due to an injury), Patric Young and Gorgui Dieng. Young showed he's able to make our fans foget Nikola. Patric is a double double machine and averaged already 9.5 Points and 9.0 Boards during his rookie season and Len (2 Blocks per game), Dieng (2.6 Blocks per game), Young (2.6 Blocks per game) are going to be a great defensive wall. Patric struggled offensively during the summer league but this problem will be solved with instructions, he took way to much jumpers while hitting only 14% of them.

Celtics Minute: Summer League Alex-Abrines
23 Minutes, 7.2 Points, 2.6 Rebounds, 1.2 Assists, 1.2 STLs, 1.2TO, 72%FG, 80%STP, 0.7 PA/SF
PER36:  11.3 Points, 4.1 Rebounds, 2 Assists, 2 STLs,

A steal? Maybe. Abrines was a great pick up at #22. Alex didnt score much but his shot selection was awesome, he didnt miss a shot during the first 4 games and played great defense stopping 80% and allowing only 0.7 points per shot faced to go along with 2 steals.

Celtics Minute: Summer League Kaleb+Tarczewski+Jarmal+Reid+Oregon+State+vYLMwvzKfc2l
20.8 Minutes, 10.6 Points, 7.4 Rebounds, 1.4 STL, 0.6 BLK, 42%FG, 89%STP, 0.7 PA/SF
PER36: 18.3 Points, 12.8 Rebounds, 2.4 STL, 1.0 BLK

12.8 Rebounds, 89%STP, 0.7 PA/SF, it looks like Tarczewski was a great pick up that late in the draft. Its nearly already a made decision Kaleb will be moved during the season, but he looks like a poor mans Asik, so he wont be cheap.

Damn, this was a really well done article. Shame I just got around to reading it.

I give absolutely zero damns about what happens during summer league. Scrubs playing other scrubs doesn't interest me. I'm not sure if I've ever looked at my summer league stats in any MP league.
