CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
Hi! I'm Mindy Mindy and welcome to CSL Tonite! Today we have Steve Smith, Dennis Scott, and Greg Anthony who'll be discussing some breakout players to look for in the 2015 season.
Gentlemen...take it away!
Well we're gonna do the wing players today Mindy and when I think of one of the up and coming wing guys, I think of the LA Lakers and their guy Bradley Beal.
He's a guy who put up 20pts, 5rebs, 2asts, and defensively he'll give nearly 2stls a game and with Westbrook unhealthy and in and outta the lineup for most of the year along with Amar'e, Bradley showed the entire League what kind of player he really could become when given the opportunity and I look for him to establish himself as one of the top SG's in the League. That's my prediction.
Not a bad pick pick Smitty, you got the right Conference but the wrong guy. I'm goin' Ben McLemore in Minnesota.
Look for him to have a breakout season this year and unlike your guy Beal, McLemore participated in Summer League, he put 23pts, 3rebs, 1ast, 1stl, and count em Smitty, nearly 4 3pters a game so I look for him to step up even more in Minny since they now have a Jeremy Lin, a Chandler Parsons, and an Andrew Bogut to go along with Kevin Love so I can see him improving on the 14pts and 3rebs he gave em last season.
This was tough fellas so I'm goin with 2 guys who...
Two??? Come on Greg...
Two?!? (Laughs) One was too hard for you huh?
Look you guys had a chance to talk, let me do the same...that's right two! One of my guys plays in Houston for the reigning Western Conference champs, Terrence Ross.
Listen... he may have only put up 10pts and 3rebs last season but keep in mind he's playing behind both James Harden and Andre Iguodala so playing time was somewhat limited but let's not forget he started off last season putting up 20pt games easily from off the bench until he suffered a broken toe and I personally don't think he fully recovered from that injury but in the Summer League, he put up 22pts, 5rebs, 3asts, and almost 3 3pters and I think he's healthy and ready to prove he's a top young player in the League.
And now my second guy, Giannis Antetokounmpo or GA or the "Greek Freak" as we affectionately call him.
I mean yes, Orlando drafted Andrew Wiggins who is gonna be a stellar player but Giannis is a guy who put up 13pts, 5rebs, 4asts, and 1blk last season and get this... 24pts, 7rebs, 5asts, 1blk, 1stl, AND 2 3pters a game in Summer League which shows me he has a knack for not only learning the game but wanting to improve as well and even though the Magic will likely struggle again this season, look for Giannis to be a bright spot down there in Orlando.
Oh yeah definitely... Orlando is gonna have a good young talented team down there between Wiggins, Noel,.and Giannis... Boston, too...
Don't forget about Atlanta... them, too... but Greg... 2??? I coulda just went with Beal and an Otto Porter in Phoenix...
Yeah he's playin' some really good ball, they got a nice young squad, too... Marcus Smart down in New Orleans... I mean we could go on and on...
Unfortunately gentlemen that's all the time we have for today but you can join in and let us know if you guys agree or disagree with Smitty, Dennis, or Greg or let us know if someone else is poised for a breakout year.
Don't forget to follow us on Twitter or Facebook and remember to tune in next time.
I'm Mindy Mindy, thanks for watching!"

Re: CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
Glad to see McLemore get some love, as the superior of the top 2 sophomore guards.
Beal's stats definitely got inflated without anybody around him and WB out of the lineup, but he should be really good in a much better team as well.
Plenty of great young guards in the league now.

Glad to see Orlando get some attention. We lost out on the one free agent we wanted so it has been quite down in the sunshine state.

Re: CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
There are lots of young up & coming wings in the league.. Really those players mentioned are predicted to step up big next season..
But I think the wing who'll really break out in 2014/2015 is my boy Paul George.
He won't be required to be the solo Alpha-Dog on the offensive end, as we have a bunch of scorers led by Howard and Millsap around him. I mean, the Pacers had good scorers too. But he's going to play next to a legit 20ppg scorer for the first time in his career.
He'll have more freedom to operate with Howard demanding lots of double teams inside, and we expect him to take full advantage of it. Also, on D, he's now surrounded by great defensive options at every single position, and also at the bench. He'll show the world how good he is defensively, and how scary he already is at such young age, a great 2-way player who has definitely capacity to be a top-10 player in this league for many years.

Re: CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
The only way I see Paul George breaking out this year is if he becomes what James Harden did last season and that's go from 23ppg scorer on .487 shooting to a 31ppg scorer on .559 and that was with me moving Carmelo Anthony to allow Harden to take over.
I'm not sure Paul George can breakout this season like that but then again no one saw Harden doing what he did and developing that way.
With that said I really like the young guys who should step up and come into their own next season.
I don't think Beal was a fluke or benefited entirely from WB and Amar'e being hurt, he's legit imo.

Re: CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
I was doing some bold predictions other day and I came up with that
Lowry - 15PPG (15)
George - 25PPG (40)
Williams - 15PPG (55)
Millsap - 15PPG (70)
Howard - 20PPG (90)
Hibbert - 10PPG (100)
Brewer - 10PPG (110)
Of course, not really everyone will score that much. Those are bold predictions..
Anyway, its close to what they've scored last season, and I think none of my core players are declining, at least for now.
I have 110PPG from 7 players in my prediction.. Well, maybe Williams does not score 15PPG or Brewer doesn't reach 10PPG off the bench.. Still, there are other players to come and fill that difference, as a team is not only made by 7 players.
Well, no one can say I'm shooting too high with any scoring prediction here.. At least I think all my guys are capable of reaching close to what I'm predicting.
Put 110PPG along a team that has 7 players with 70+ defense (2 of the top interior defenders in the league).. Well..
So, I really don't think George needs to score 30PPG for me to score more points per game than your Rockets scored last season with Harden putting up 31.. If he scores 25, with high rebounding and assists, great D and cut down his TO's a little bit, for me that's a superstar, that's a breakout, and that's a player who can really lead my team to success.
That said, I agree with you, and I don't think George will reach the 30PPG mark. Thank God I'm not relying on him to score huge numbers every night

Re: CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
I mean, I've calculated my team stats / per240 minutes (5*48)
I've used of course player's last year stats to calculate it..
And, well, even though it shows nothing (for example, I included Jordan Hill's 10MPG and his stats from last season, even though he is not getting minutes this season here), I have a Points Scored per 240 minutes of 110,5PPG. And, the most impressive, our rebounding rates are extraordinaries, at 53RPG / 240
I mean, I'm not shooting too High on my predictions, am I? Hahah
Please get me back to earth if I am guys hahaha
I think I have a great team and I'm competing for the title, even more when Barea and Smith joins the team (assuming nothing will go wrong here).. But I may be completely wrong. Also, I don't know the league yet, I don't know what my players and other players from other great teams are capable of doing..

Re: CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
George averaging 25-30ppg is definitely wishful thinking if you ask me.
For Indiana, he averaged 20 flat in 36mpg, and did so on very ordinary shooting for a 6'9 that doesn't take a ton of threes. While great in other areas like defense and rebounding, he wasn't efficient. He managed 43.7/36/78.7 (7.8FGM/17.8FGA) plus 3.9 TO/game playing in an average-to-slow offense. He's a fantastic player and he could put up 25+ ppg in an uptempo offense, but the sloppy ball-handling would bother me. I don't think it's in your best interest to try to ride George for 25+ points a night.
Just my one cent.
I had to give up the other of my two cents in the Lebron deal.

Good work man. Hard to argue with these picks, especially Giannis. Jeff will tell you that I spent nearly a month trying to get him, lol.
As for Beal, I'm not sure if he's going to breakout, but rather take a step forward and play at the level he did without WB, but with him this time. It's crucial to our success going forward.

I wasn't necessarily saying George has to put up 30 a night, just saying he'd have to have a significant jump and even then he wouldn't be considered a breakout player, I'd think he be considered as living up to his ratings/ projections while breakout is describing what I think the guys listed can do.
3 of the top gun young SG's are all in the same conference and that's on top of a 24yr old Harden and Paul George, unreal imo and factor in an injured DeMar DeRozan (24) is coming back about a month or so into the season for Dallas and it gets really competitive on the wings.

Re: CSL Tonite! Breakout Players
Great article Willy, like always!
I believe AK is right, Beal should take a step back, he did an awesome job last year with no WB around. Anyway Beal is one of the best young SG out there. Ive another "sleeper" I believe who could break out. But no words who Im thinking about, will try to acquire him via trade:D..

Good article. I think this league has a lot of young up and coming players which is what will make it strong. Some very good guards and forwards that are going to keep developing and personally I'm excited to see how Drummond does this year for us, but overall a ton of talent which is a good thing.

Cool article, I gotta do a league article soon too.
I expect Rubio, MKG and Davis to make the allstar team this season and Seraphin should take a big step forward with TOR.
