Ten Pounds
Does it make a difference?
We've heard all the jokes about Nerlens Noel and his weight…
Man, Nerlens is so skinny he has to wear skis in the shower.
Nerlens Noel is so skinny, he has to stand in the same place twice to cast a shadow.
Noel is so skinny, he can grate cheese on his ribs.
Nerlens is so skinny, he inspires crack whores to diet.
The list goes on and on. This summer the Magic pulled aside the center out of the University of Kentucky and had some words of wisdom. EAT!
While it seemed to work, as Noel went from 206 pounds to 216 pounds. He looked great in his first 3 games.
Game 1 - 16 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block
Game 2 - 10 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks
Game 3 - 13 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks
So we see his production has moved up some…
But what does 10 pounds get you?
Noel is now out for 8 days with a strained calf. Could his body just not be able to handle the daunting task of carrying that additional 10 pounds? Can his body hold up now with that extra weight having to be absorbed by his legs? While gaining the 10 pounds is going to help him absorb some of the punishment he takes down low against the larger post players, can his frame handle the extra weight?
Time will tell if this is a one time incident or a new trend that will plague Noel throughout his career.

Re: Ten Pounds
If getting up to 216 pounds is causing injuries, he got a problem lol
I hope for your sake he's alright, but I worry about that for Noel in real life.

He really needs to bulk up. Like already said it was great you added 10. just curios to know. 15/20/25 hours at TC for it?
It was pretty different for my guys. Schröder added 5 while spending 15hrs, Dieng added 10 while spending 15hrs.

Does weight actually make that much difference in the engine? What is the difference between 206 and 216 and 230. Are you going to be in foul trouble more or play softer D if you're much lighter than your opponent? Does it also mean that you can play at a faster pace?

Re: Ten Pounds
What I noticed it affects your D and offense. Guards have to be light to stay in front of others if they want to be great defenders. If you want a driving guard you should bulk him up slightly and bigs should be at least ~235 to be able to grab as much rebounds as possible. I believe Noel will be Beast on the boards as soon as he reached ~235.
Checked Defense stats last season. I believe weight has an Effect. For example 6'1 or 6'2 with around ~175lbs is Perfect to be a great defender. Same for smallforwards with ~220lbs 6'6..
But thats only my experience.

Re: Ten Pounds
There's a ratio between height and weight. If the player is lighter (higher height, lower weight), then he has a better STP%, as well as being able to drive into the paint easier. If he is heavier (lower height, higher weight), then he will have a better PA/SF and more likely be a better finisher inside.

Definitely needed to be done, but he's still getting abused by other centers. Tyson put up 24/10 on 8/13 shooting and AD had 24/4 on 11/14 shooting.

Ya, it's going to take some time. Can only add 10 pounds every training camp so it will be 2 more years before I can get him to 236.
In response to your question Dennis, it took 20 hours for Noel. I ran camps offline and 15 hours would only add 5 for him.

Did the same but had a few players that needed only 15hrs. Strange.
Maybe it has to do with work ethic. Anyway, like you said two more years. But he will be a Monster after.
Nevertheless I would aim for 250 to handle all those 260 bigs

Re: Ten Pounds
I probably should have added more weight to Anthony Davis to bulk him up to play more minutes at center, but Noel definitely needs to continue to add weight for about 3 or 4 more years.

Re: Ten Pounds
With 100 in off boards and 100 in def boards, I think he would do pretty well hahaha
Wondering if the league would allow him to play like this
