Jestorball In The Desert V. 2 - The First Moves
Walker, Utah First To Atlanta For McGary, Spurs First
Word on the street was Kemba Walker wouldn't be with the Suns too much longer, and that turned out to be precisely the case, with the young point guard packaged with the Utah Jazz 2015 1st and sent to the Atlanta Hawks for second year to be big Mitch McGary and the Spurs' 2015 1st. In completing the deal, Phoenix has left itself without a true point guard, but now finally have what is arguably the biggest key to a successful Jestorball team - a high % shooting big man with above average scoring knack and adequate rebounding and shotblocking skills.
McGary, who some thought was Phoenix's main target in last year's draft, shot 54.5% inside last season and the already post-oriented former Wolverine will be continue to see instruction at living in the post with the Suns. He's also drawn numerous comparisons to Aleks Maric, a big who profiles a very similar game to McGary's and was an All-Star in another league under Jestor's tutelage, despite not having exceptional scoring instincts or rebounding ability.
"Basically, he's the first big we've gotten that the GM feels he can trust in the system," said one Suns official on condition of anonymity. "While we like Kelly (Olynyk) and Colton (Iverson), they're bench players. Whereas Mitch is a worthy starter, and one we think can be very successful in the type of setup we run. I expect him to average considerably more than his 10.9 points a game next year, especially since he'll be our primary post scoring option unless something happens in the draft."
Speaking of the draft, although the rumor is hot and heavy that UNLV's Anthony Bennett is a mortal lock to go #3 with Andrew Wiggins #1 and Alex Len #2, some speculate that the Suns could go point guard now that Walker is gone, and most big boards speculate that Andrew Harrison will be the logical pick in that scenario. Others argue that Harrison may not have the skillset demanded of Jestorball's point guards and could instead go for in-state product Jahii Carson despite the latter's small size. Still others opine that Julius Randle will be the pick, as AB15 is too small for the 4, whereas Randle is much taller and bigger, and has explosive two-way talent. One thing is for certain - with McGary now on board, the Suns can easily afford to take any of the players listed, or go in a completely different direction to shock everyone.
As for pick #10, Phoenix staffers say the board is too muddy right now to even project a list around that frame of picks, and it's quite possible the selection could be traded by the time the draft clock starts ticking.
In other Suns news, Mike Dunlap received his pink slip in favor of Nate McMillan, the latter a head coach who, along with Reggie Theus, is well versed in Jestorball, and has had great success with the system. In fact, McMillan and the rest of the current Magic staff were all hired by Jestor while he was in the Magic Kingdom. That news will be little comfort to Phoenix fans however, who suffered through Dunlap's two years of awfulness, and McMillan was equally uninspiring in his Orlando tenure.
But one never knows what will transpire over the coming weeks.

McGary ends up on your roster after all. We knew it was bound to happen after your mancrush on him before last year's draft.

Like McGary, especially over Kemba. Nice trade for you guys IMO.
Harrison is a 2, but I think he should be the pick for sure. Neither McGary nor Porter have great scoring upsde, and finding that is always tough IMO.

Yeah Porter, McGary, and Anthony Bennett will be a very good 3some for the long haul and see Phoenix being a sleeper upstart team this season with Jestor running the team.
