The Dreaded "Broken Nose" Injury Empty The Dreaded "Broken Nose" Injury

Post by WillyJakkz (ORL) Fri Feb 28, 2014 10:58 am

Not sure if it's been mentioned before but I would like to get some discussion going or maybe even a resolution to the dreaded broken nose injury.

This injury has put players out for a very extended period of time whereas in real life guys may miss a game or miss a few games (if that) but they comeback to play with a mask on which granted may affect their game but should it really be to the extent that it is in the sim? (I don't know the exact numbers).

I recall Kevin Love missing around 30-40 days with a broken nose although he could play but I believe his effectiveness was at a very very low percent of what he would normally be.

Isn't there a way to adjust this? I remember James Harden I believe got injured in a sim during the offseason or something of that nature (ACL tear or something) and the commish did an override on the injury which made him "healthy" again.

Maybe we can get some discussion going on the broken nose injury ie; the "Broken Nose Rule" where something of a similar fashion can be done?

Just wanted to bring it up now in the offseason before something drastic happens inseason and GM's get frustrated over it.

Appreciate it.

I thought this was going to be a thread about LeBron James and how much ESPN has glorified him for playing through this nose injury. Man, is there anything that LBJ can't do?  Rolling Eyes

I agree that PB3 definitely exaggerates the extent of a broken nose to the point where the player is almost useless in the lineup. I wouldn't be against putting a rule in to place that keeps the player injured for a period of time but at a much lower (higher?) percentage than the game normally generates.

Parson's also suffered it last season, and he was out for 2 months!
He was not at 0%, I think he started at 70% or higher, so but I didn't force him out until totally healthy just in case we would injury again.

Anayway I'm not against it. IMO what we should do it's call it with another name, let's say a broken metatarsal or whatever, and that way it would make more sense in terms of recovery time.

Agreed, if it really bothers, call it something else. We need to respect the intention of the sim more than the names of specific injuries. They suck, for sure, but all of them (nose included) are a part of the balance the sim provides.

I don't even look at the what the injury is. The player is out for X number of days at Y%- who cares with what injury? Not like you can go and fix it somehow...

Probably a better idea. If it just said injured and didn't specify what the injury was it wouldn't be as big of a deal.

But the fact remains we do know exactly what the specific injury is and a broken nose has never hindered someone to be out for months.

I think (and I may be off) irl Tyler Hansbrough broke his nose and was out an extended period of time cause he got a sinus infection that turned into vertigo.

I may be off with that again but end of the day guys get broken noses and wear masks.

Hell Nando De Colo got his nose broken, went to the lockerroom and came back and finished that same game with a mask.

Again I don't have the numbers but guys don't become completely useless for months with a broken nose.

That was in RTG where Harden tore his MCL, recovered and then the immediately following off-season sim he tore his ACL and apparently after Wichmae investigated, his durability was at like 5 in game.  I was the one who had Harden lol.

I agree with this sentiment though.  There seem to be a lot of injuries in DDS that sideline players for an obscene amount of time that do not even relate to their real life counterparts.

You can edit it in game but I'm pretty sure it change it permanently means editing the DB before you start a league. Once the league is started, you just cop the broken nose and the commissioners could edit the time out to 3-4 days or something.

Whether that's worth doing or not is up for debate I guess.
