Nets Offensive play Review
John Wooden legacy
Goikiri is UCLA High Post Offense lover, he is studying and playing with this set since 90s.
The UCLA High Post Offense is an offensive strategy in basketball, used by John Wooden, head coach at the University of California, Los Angeles. Due to UCLA's immense success under Wooden's guidance, the UCLA High Post Offense has become one of the most popular offensive tactics, and elements of it are commonly used on all levels of basketball including the NBA of 70s and 80s.
The UCLA High Post is run using a two guards. Meaning you have two guards out front. This place setting forces the defense to also come out away from the basket.
goikiri wrote: We have more doubts in SG position. Three players have the option to start in this position (JJ, M.Brooks or T.Allen). We need a "driver players" who know how to play in post, with good BH and good percent in shoots. In PG position, Rondo and Pressey are perfect players to play this set, drivers with ball handling.
The first pass can be made to either side for the forwards. The post man (C) will move to the elbow (side of foul line) on the ball side. Then, two guards cut to the basket taking advantage of screen of the center and demand the ball in the post when the ball is received by the 5 near the high post area. He may have to pop out to get open for the pass.
goikiri wrote: Here JJ or Tony Allen in SG position could be very dangerous because they are tall and strong. Brook should look down. The UCLA High Post Offense is flexible in its ability to use the strengths of most players on the floor. This man-to-man offense is designed to take full advantage of a center with good passing, shooting and one-on-one skills out of the high post, but it can also take advantage of the post up abilities of either guard and forward.
If the center doesn't pass the ball inside, the forwards set a down screen for guards who will try to get open for a shot and forwards catch the position inside to play in the post.
goikiri wrote: The forwards, in this set, must be complete players. They start open, very important exploit Beasley and McAdoo's three point shots. The problem is that they hasn't passing ability.
The set finish when one of the guards take the ball and the 3,4 and 5 playing flex.
goikiri wrote: I don't know if this style will work with these players but, like Jestor with his Jestorball, I want to have my style.

Joe Johnson should fit in well, being able to take advantage of some of the smaller shooting guards in the league down on the block.

The Nets should find more success with a consistent GM, probably a PF away from doing some damage (Scola was traded).
Nice article and explanation of the offensive set, find it hard to be effective against the teams who love to zone nearly the entire game though.

Be careful my friend, you know there's someone across the bridge with also some experience running that play
Anyway I've seen it all about it: from players running it for years and still not able to explain it, to defenses knowing exactly what the offense was doing and still failing to stop it
Joe Johnson is the perfect fit for this strat, able to play multiple positions. Not sure about Brook though. He needs to operate near the basket, so can't see him being effective in the high post. Personally I would tweak the offense a bit not to have him away from the basket, and exploit the last part of the system when Rondo get's the ball and tries to feed the PF and C inside.
With Rondo in the team, the ball should be in his hands most of the time, and he'll manage to feed everyone.
And most important.. number #8 flops!

Yes, for example I have a game between UCLA and USC with 4 overtimes. But I haven't UCLA games with Wooden.

Interesting read. I'm not sure how all of that will really transfer over in the sim, but it's definitely unique.

Wooden did great things for UCLA, lets see if you can do the same great things with Brooklyn - will take much more than just adopting his offense though
