Manu Ginobili Heads to the Capitol
Manu Ginobili has signed on with the Washington Wizards for a three year deal worth 4.5 million dollars. It is a flat salary contract with no raises, and the third year is a team option.

He's going to retire before that contract ends. Perhaps after this season. Not a fan of this contract whatsoever.

If he retires the remaining years become void.

No they don't, they stay on the payroll. Both Jason Kidd and Steve Nash retired, and Portland and Indiana both have cap holds from it, I believe.

Maybe I'm thinking of medical retirement?

hehe, maybe.
Having Camby, Kidd, Sheed, Kurt Thomas... my first season, it was the first lesson I learned

Was wondering where this guy would wind up, we couldn't afford that contract.
Congrats Washington and thanks Manu! We miss ya!

I would not be signing anyone to a deal that long with the threat of them retiring this season looming. As most people know I'm pretty tight with my money and would hate to have dead weight under my cap.
