2013-2014 CSL Awards
2013-2014 CSL Awards
We might as well have called this track: Miami & New Orleans feat: Houston, Los Angeles
Most Valuable Player – Kevin Durant – Miami Heat
31.6ppg (59.2%) / 5.0rpg / 1.9apg / 1.2spg / 0.9bpg
Kevin Durant averaged 31.6 points per contest on 59.2% shooting. Let that sink in. The runner up in this category averaged 36.3 on 55.2%. But I don’t need to tell you that 64-18 is much less impressive than 74-8, do I? The Miami Heat, led by scoring savant Kevin Durant, again dominated the CSL this year on their way to their second consecutive title. While the MVP award is a regular season accolade, every general manager, coach and player knew the Heat were the team to beat – and they didn’t disappoint.
Rookie of the Year – Marcus Smart – New Orleans Pelicans
15.2ppg (45.8%) / 3.9rpg / 4.4apg / 1.4spg / 0.6bpg
The top-billed rookie in last year’s draft class didn’t disappoint either. Smart scored 15.2 points per game in less than 30 minutes per contest. Impressively, he averaged a solid 45.8% shooting from the field for a rookie. There’s no doubt that the league will be waiting with baited breath to see what kind of player emerges from the Pelican’s training camp this summer – will it be a floor general with a great all around skillset or a combo guard who can pass with the best of them?
General Manager of the Year – WillyJakkz – Houston Rockets
53-29 regular season record / NBA Finals Appearance
A well-deserved nod here, in my opinion. There were four GMs who received the bulk of the votes, but Willy’s squad quite obviously out-performed every other team when it comes to talent versus wins produced. This feisty GM stuck to his guns (and his season-long objective) and his team made a finals appearance against the eventual champs as a result.
Coach of the Year – Mike Woodson – Miami Heat
74-8 regular season record / 16-1 post season record / 2013-2014 NBA Title
Congrats to Mike, but we might as well call this the Phil Jackson Award. Does this guy even have to coach? “Okay guys, this time I want you to pass it to Kevin.” About the only play call you need. Joking aside, 74-8 is prodigious.
6th Man of the Year – Eric Gordon – New Orleans Pelicans
21.7ppg (47.7%) / 3.5rpg / 3.9apg / 1.5spg / 0.4bpg
Eric scored 21.7 points per game in less than 30 minutes off the bench. Last year’s winner, Monta Ellis (who also happens to be suiting up for the Heat after an off-season trade) only managed to average a little over 17 points per contest in similar minutes.
Defensive Player of the Year – Chris Paul – Los Angeles Clippers
224.ppg (51.3%) / 3.4rpg / 7.2apg / 3.3spg / 0.0bpg
Last year’s MVP and DPOY award winner again takes home honors for one of the most underrated accomplishments in the league. Sporting a sterling defensive reputation to go along with a league leading 3.3 steals per game, Paul easily walks away with the award for the second year in a row.

Re: 2013-2014 CSL Awards
Totally unexpected and I truly appreciate the votes for GMoY guys.
I had Dylan pegged as the winner for the masterful job he did with that Jazz team or op with the Heat not to mention SS and the Cats/ Hornets so once again thanks.
Congrats to all the winners and nominees as well.

Big congrats to Willy for GM of the year. From what I could see, very well deserved. I would not have expected that Rockets team to go to the finals over the Clipps or Thunder, just makes it feel that much better when you're the huge underdog.

Re: 2013-2014 CSL Awards
Just curious but do coaching and GM awards include post season? I honestly am not sure as I know the player awards are based on the regular season.

Re: 2013-2014 CSL Awards
As was said before, GM of the year is really the award everyone should be shooting for because that is something that is actually in our control. Willy did an amazing job and definitely deserved this honor. As for Rookie of the Year and 6th Man of the Year awards coming to New Orleans, I can now use my new sig.
