Fantastic work on this. Seriously, this is the best laid out sim league CBA I've ever seen.

For reference to the bulk of the original conversation, please reference the following thread: Jordan Hill Sings Massive One Year Deal
Yeah I'd be "singing" too if I signed that contract.
Back on topic great work on the CBA SS.

Hahaha - so the hell would I.
Hill is getting paid double what he may have made over the remainder of his career in one year.

I must say I did not like that new rule at all.
But, hey, if I got it right, at least Reggie Bullock is now an RFA when his contract ends. Easier to re-sign him.

What is it about the rule that you don't like?

I think it makes no sense. I mean, players like Bullock will be eligible to a max extension at the last year of their contracts, but they'll only have 2 Bird Right years (because a player only earns a Bird Year at the end of the year). The rule says players must have 3 or + years to be extended in-season. It's kind of contradictory.
But I'm in for whatever rules you guys decide. I can easily adapt into every new rule, just wanna be sure there are rules to be followed when that kind of situation happens.
It's another step towards "organizing" the simulator's financial system, and I'm very happy that you guys have done a masterful job till now

Re: CSL - CBA Discussion
I hate the RFA rule for 2nd rounders. Bird rights, fine. RFA status, though? That's just a way to even further restrict player movement in free agency and further cheapens cap space.

Yeah 2nd Round picks should not be treated as 1st rounders...that's just ridiculous

Re: CSL - CBA Discussion
It's also going to increase the value of 2nd round picks, because that means you've got player control for ALL of your drafted players. 2nd round salaries are so small that the only reason not to give them a 3 year contract is if you need the roster spots.

Re: CSL - CBA Discussion
If we're going to allow 2nd rounders to be extended, then it should only be a % of their last contract year. If the player is garbage, of course he'll sign a small deal. If he's at the talent similar to Parsons, no way he's going to sign and will look for a lucrative offer in free agency. I just don't see the logic in 2nd round picks getting 1st rounder treatment.
Then again, I also think the only players that should be extension eligible are 1st rounders coming off rookie contracts. After that new deal expires, they shouldn't be able to be extended again like Aldridge, etc.
That would open the door for a much more attractive free agency, where teams would be fighting tooth and nail to get cap space to sign big name players entering their prime.

Re: CSL - CBA Discussion
The big problem is that a rule like this is going to horrifically imbalance team building to the draft and trades, and make free agency essentially an afterthought. There will be zero avenue to build a team through free agency, and as a result almost no incentive to create cap space, because fuck it, all the top players are going to extend in-season anyway, and any decent young players are going to be RFAs.

Also if this is going to stay in place, FA should be shortened to a week as befitting its drastically reduced importance.
