All - please refer to the following document regarding all questions pertaining to contracts, trades, salary cap information and other questions.  This will be the default for any rules going forward and may be periodically updated to reflect new ideas and decisions that we make as a league, with the final say of the commissioners.

Please Click Here to View the CSL Collective Bargaining Agreement: CSL Collective Bargaining Agreement

Please feel free to PM any direct comments or questions you have or would like to be addressed.  If we need to involve the league for the purpose of discussion, we can.  I would prefer not to default to that method, however, unless there is a need to do so.

CSL Collective Bargaining Agreement – Ruling #1

As a result of the questions surrounding the OKC/SAC sign & trade involving Jordan Hill, we have come to the following ruling.  Please feel free to ask questions in the CBA Discussion Thread.

Ruling #1: Unrestricted Free Agents who are signed using their rights via the Larry Bird Exception are allowed to be immediately traded following the execution of their new contract.  There is no Trade Restriction period for players signed in this manner.  Unrestricted Free Agents who are signed using their rights via the Larry Bird Exception can be signed to a contract between one (1) and five (5) years, per the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

For reference to the bulk of the original conversation, please reference the following thread: Jordan Hill Signs Massive One Year Deal

CSL Collective Bargaining Agreement – Ruling #2

As a result of the questions surrounding Chandler Parsons and the Restricted Status of 2nd round players, we have come to the following ruling.  Please feel free to ask questions in the CBA Discussion Thread.

Ruling #2: Second round players who have played for three (3) seasons under the full three year second round scale contract will be eligible for an in-season extension in the third and final year of their contract.  Additionally, they will retain full bird rights and will be fully eligible for maximum scale extensions as a result.

This means that you must sign second round picks to their full three year contract if you wish to make them a restricted free agent at the expiration of their contract.  Second round players signed to one and two year deals will become unrestricted free agents at the expiration of their contracts and will not be eligible for in-season extensions, as they will not have bird rights.

CSL Collective Bargaining Agreement – Ruling #3

As a result of the recent extensions being signed by various unrestricted and restricted free agents, we felt it necessary to establish a new rule governing the trading of players involved in extended contracts.  Please feel free to ask questions in the CBA Discussion Thread.

Ruling #3: Players who have been extended in-season are trade restricted until their new contracts take effect the following season.

This is going to be enforced for several reasons. The most important of which is that is follows more closely to logic and how the actual NBA works. Free agents don't sign extensions with teams only to be traded away once their value has been increased as a result of the extension. Additionally, players are very specifically extending with their current team given the direction of the franchise, the quality of the roster and other factors. Finally, extending a player is functionally the same thing as signing them to a new contract. Players have trade restrictions when signed to new contracts and, thus, will have trade restrictions when signed to extensions.
