MAGIC KEEP THE BROW AS NUMERO UNO
THE BROW: If players can fear Davis's impact like folks fear his brow-- The Kingdom will be indestructible
ORLANDO, FL- The Magic drafted Anthony Davis with the number one overall pick in the 2017 NLL Draft with the intent to keep him. There were serious discussions with two different teams about possible trades; one backed out, the other deal the Magic slowly started to like less and less. With that said, the Magic intend to keep Davis and his trademark unibrow in the Kingdom.
" We had no qualms keeping him. On our board, he was #1. We had one other player at #2, we like and we are going to stil try to get in some fashion, but we're thrilled to keep him," the GM said," I think he'll make a good player in the rotation right now and just develop into a stud defensively. "
Lots of scouts have compared Davis to former Magic, Hassan Whiteside, however the one concern regarding Whiteside the Magic never publicly mentioned, but deep down inside feared was his lack of productivity given his frame, his ratings, and his minutes on the floor. The Magic seemed content on keeping Whiteside at a time, assuming he'd outwork DeAndre for the top spot, but Whiteside's production never matched what the ratings showed or what his potentials showed.
" It's true. We had to value him high cause quite frankly a seven foot Center with his capabilities needs to be, but at the same time, we opted for Steven Hunter a lot over him. I just never was too fond of the way Whiteside played on the court, but feel with Davis. He'll be more offensively gifted and hopefully actually puts that level of potential and ratings into impact and numbers. If so, we will be thrilled," the GM confessed.
The Magic are in the midst of a massive re-tooling. The Magic submitted multiple moves into the league's trade office; sending Deron to Toronto for Gordon and future considerations, James Johnson to Golden State for Earl Clark and future considerations, and sending future considerations to Philadelphia for Demetri McCarney. The Magic are expected to give up the level 3 tax and accept fate, but keep below the the 83.9 mllion hard tax with the intent to still put up a tremendous team.
" Oh no doubt, losing a future first versus not being competitive? Let's not be silly. We'll be financially responsible for our moves, we're expecting to dump some more contracts and hopefully sign some veterans to fill out the rotation. Right now our team is looking good, we have 7 or so pieces in our rotation ready to go. We need more though," Coach Adelman said.
