Round 1 - Pick 16 - Orlando Magic Empty Round 1 - Pick 16 - Orlando Magic

Post by Cyrisnyte (SAS) Tue Mar 04, 2014 3:38 am

The Magic watched the draft unfold and saw their move to bring in Wiggins' college teammate Perry Ellis come up short after communications with Washington's GM came up short.  The goal was to bring in a familiar player to pair up with Wiggins to give him a comfort level.

The second player the Magic had their eye on fell off the board after Boston made a draft day trade with San Antonio to snag Vasilije Micic.

There the Magic sat.  A few calls came in, one interesting which would have seen a top tier player join the Magic but at a cost they weren't willing to make just yet.

Unlike many war rooms.  This one contained GM Cyrisnyte and new head coach Scott Skiles.  The two sat across from each other talking about the illegal activities that had just taken place outside of Salt Lake City as they looked over the scouting.  They both stopped on one name and just like that the selection was made…

Round 1 - Pick 16 - Orlando Magic Andre-Roberson
Can the 6'7" Roberson play PF in the Wiggins centered offense?

Andre Roberson, the 6'7" PF from Colorado had his name called with the 16th selection for the Orlando Magic.  There was a very mixed reaction from the crowd on hand at the draft.  While he has been compared to Dennis Rodman, just without all the drama, the question remains.  Can Roberson play PF at only 6'7" in the CSL?

GM Cyrisnyte wrote:We liked the overall package we saw in Andre Roberson.  He has a high level understanding of playing defense and that is what we will pride ourselves with here in Orlando.  We were also impressed with his ability to rebound the ball.  We hope that Andre can come in and contribute as a rookie for us.  We jokingly told him that we would be having Nerlens and him eat buckets of lard until they can put on some weight.  We are excited at having Roberson join the Magic and look forward to helping him develop his game to be ready for the CSL.

This wraps up the draft for the Magic who have no 2nd rounders this year.  It will be interesting to see what they do now as FA approaches.

At this stage in the draft, he's worth the roll of the dice as a test to see what he can do there.

I'm kinda shocked by the pick honestly, not that it's bad, just shocked.

He should be a superb rebounder but at just 6'7" will it translate?

Should be able to rebound and is a great passer. Could be a great fit to Wiggins, I liked his high IQ/DI + great passing for a PF.

You know, it was a gamble for me. Having missed a huge part of the season I had to go and read a lot of old posts and rely on my workouts/interviews. The two players I really wanted were off the board so I went with Roberson.

He intrigues me as a player who can play D and rebound which is exactly what I'm looking for with Giannis and Andrew on the wings. As mentioned, my concern is his height and weight. I already have Noel who thinks he is the spokesman for skinny jeans on my team and now I bring in Roberson. Could blow up in my face but I'm going to try a few different things out.
