Busy Boston Celtics - a draft day recap (to be continued...)
It has been a busy draft for Boston so far. Owning 4 first round picks before the draft started, everbody knew this will be the day to be active, to determine Bostons future. Actually the top20 is finished and its time for a little break down.
But dont believe the C's are done. Expect more to come... So stay tuned. This will be continued as soon as the draft moves on. Our next pick will be #22.
Starting Situation
PG: Schröder, Hill, Neal
SG: DeRozan, Fields, Redd
SF: Wallace, Barnes, Joseph
PF: Johnson, Thomas
C: Vucevic, Melo, Mahinmi, Oden
Picks: #2, #22, #23, #31
Pre-Draft
Knowing Len would join Boston with the second overall pick, the franchise decided to trade fan favorite Nikola Vucevic together with DeMar DeRozan and George Hill for Patric Young and #6 in the upcoming draft.
Young is 6-9 and was part of the ALL-CSL-Rookie first team last season. On top he was a rookie game starter and played a promising first season. Last season Young averaged 9.6 Points, 9.0 Rebounds, 1.8 Blocks on 54% shooting allowing only 0.8 points per shot faced.
trade
Vucevic, Hill, DeRozan, ATL 16' first for Young, Davis, Jamison, #6
Draft-Day
Pick #2
target: Alex Len
pick: Alex Len
With the second overall pick Boston selected Alex Len from Maryland. Len impressed all scouts during the season and was the highest rated prospect for nearly the hole season.
During some workouts and an interview, Len proved he could be Bostons star moving forward.
Pre-Draft tournament stats: 9 points, 7,5 rebounds and 1 block.
Pick #6
target: Shabazz Muhammad
pick: Jahii Carson
trade
Jahii Carson for Shabazz Muhammad + #18
After some sources already were suprised Boston picked Carson the mystery was unraveled only one pick later.
The Celtics traded down to pick up Shabazz Muhammad and #18. There had to be a market for a PG like Carson, so Boston started shopping him and found the perfect trade here. The franchise still added the player they wanted and received another first.
trade
Gary Neal for 2015 Denver second
In between Boston needed to get some rosterspaces to be able to sign all their rookies.
Gary Neal was sent to Minnesota for a future second rounder.
Pick #13
target: Gary Harris
pick: Vasilije Micic
trade
#13, #27, KG, SAS 2016 2nd for #23, Oden, Johnson, #31
It was always the plan to trade up to acquire Gary Harris. A guy the franchise just fall in love with. Harris + Schröder, no doubt, that would have been one of the best and youngest defensive minded backcourts in the CSL. But the first time during this years draft the plan didnt work out. New Orleans traded up and reached for Harris at #9. Nevertheless there was another guy slipping, Vasilije Micic. After taking a deep look into their scouting reports the staff decided to offer San Antonio a trade down to acquire another great, young asset.
Pick #18
target: Rasheed Sulaimon, Archie Goodwin, Player X (still on the board)
acquired: Gorgui Dieng
trade
#18 for Gorgui Dieng
The Celtics already had a great defensive minded Center, Fab Melo, who could have played backup minutes behind Len, but as soon as Golden States offer arrived it was a no brainer for the franchise. Dieng provides unbelievable defense, great rebounding and will fit perfectly into the second unit. Gorgui wont be a scorer, but that wont be needed.
Rumours
Rumours are saying Boston isnt finished yet and even finished another trade. As it seems the next first round pick is on his way to Massachusetts.
Actual Roster
PG: Schröder, Micic
SG: Micic, ?, ?
SF: Muhammad, Wallace, Korver
PF: Young, KG, Thomas
C: Len, Dieng, Mahinmi
Stay tuned.. Will update as soon as we are up again.

Man, you have totally remade that entire roster into one of the youngest in the entire league. Not only are you young, but you are bursting at the seems with potential. Could be a dangerous squad in two or three years!

2 TCs and 4 Stats updates and we should be able to do some damage. Next season will be a transition year. But we are going to have 30-40 million capspace next offseason + a few of those guys should be already developed (at least, Bazz who seems to be not that raw, Schröder, Young, Dieng).
