Dallas Lands Mayo/Faried

Dallas, TX

The Dallas Mavericks continued to make moves during the off-season, in an attempt to revamp their roster to at least be more competitive in the already tough Western Conference. Teams are no longer looking at Dallas as an easy win, or a huge upset loss like last season. The Mavericks completed a three team trade between Atlanta and Milwaukee to further complete their starting lineup. In this move, they traded the young and raw Cody Zeller, Alex Poythress, defensive stopper Wesley Matthews, and Jared Cunningham in exchange for OJ Mayo and Kenneth Faried.

OJ Mayo and Kenneth Faried will look to try and get their careers back on track after a bit of a disappointing season with the Bucks.

"What we're trying to do, is to give players a better chance to thrive in a system that will allow them to get the touches they want and need. Players like DeRozan, Mayo, Faried, and Vucevic will be seen as key players for our team this season. With the leadership of Tony Parker helping to guide them, it'll definitely be a better season here in Dallas. Will we make it to the playoffs? That's obviously a goal for us but we'd have to go from winning 20 games to at least 45 games. That's 25 wins more...a very tough hurdle." GM Tanner Owen said after the trade. "It's a process. I know our fans will enjoy coming to the games again."

With that being said from the General Manager, the team will be without DeMar DeRozan for the beginning of the season due to his injury but after that, the Mavericks will have a fast paced team that will be able to score on the fast break as well as create their own shots when needed. On the defensive end...that could be a bit of a different story. Faried and Vucevic will likely be the anchors of the Maverick defense, with the departure of Matthews, that could be what breaks the Mavericks.

Also, with Alec Burks expiring, who was an underrated defender for the team, Owen had mentioned that they were going to try and get him back during free agency. "We liked what we saw towards the end of the season with him and would love to have him return to the team, but we'll see when the time comes."

Very big fan of both Mayo and Faried - think you did a good job here. You need to give Mayo the green light to shoot threes with reckless abandon for this squad as, outside of him, you have no one who really can.

Faried and Vucevic will create a nightmare rebounding duo for you fro years to come - looking forward to seeing this team develop.

Good luck!

I really loved this deal for you. Faried is awesome and Mayo is a real solid scorer. Faried/Vucevic is gonna be awesome.

Great job getting more established guys with the assets that you had. Let's see if Faried can finally put together a great year after the injuries of the past two.

Mayo's decent too and while overpaid, should be a good fit on that roster.

It's strange, but as adverse as I am to overpaying players, Mayo doesn't really feel that way to me. He's rather one dimensional, granted, but he sports a nice DRB rate for a guard and scoring always costs a premium - plus he has a nice long ball.

Perhaps. He's a lot more efficient than I thought he was.

I can't believe the turnaround on this roster from the beginning of one season to the next. Last year this team was looking like it was a near lock to be one of the worst three teams in the entire league. Right now, the talent in that starting lineup is plentiful! It's great having GMs in this league that just want to win!
