Round 1 - Pick 30 - Miami Heat Empty Round 1 - Pick 30 - Miami Heat

Post by orangeparka (MIA) Thu Mar 06, 2014 9:07 pm

With the 30th pick in the 2014 CSL Draft, the Miami Heat select Adreian Payne from Michigan State.

Round 1 - Pick 30 - Miami Heat 1385184924000-AdreianPayne1122

Interview with GM Parka:
Payne was one of the guys that we worked out multiple times (since I thought we had just #17), and we were quite impressed with him, even though we went with AJ Hammons with that #17 pick instead.

Thankfully, we didn't have to pick semi-blind (though we did scout a lot of players, we only looked at #17 options with our workouts since we weren't expecting to have this pick, and he was the only one left), especially since none of the other guys we regularly scouted were impressive.

With the pick, the organization showed our firm believe in best available talent over need, picking a center and a PF in the draft over more pressing needs at the guard positions.

As a team with somewhat limited long-term assets moving forward, we hope that these two players can become core pieces and the future of our organization.

Seems like the confusion coulda been handled long ago as far as your knowledge of you owning the pick.

Payne finally taken, thought Orlando shoulda took him over Roberson unless age was the determining factor.

Payne seems like he fell a bit, decent pick.

But we're entering day 7 ofthe draft, lets get this over with. I like the draft as much as the next guy, but this is just taking far too long. Hopefully guys start sending in lists if they won't be around so we can move on.

I even looked at Payne with my later pick so at 30, good value.

This is dragging though. Took too long to get through the first round.

Like the pick here. Hoping the speed of the draft picks up since I don't have any picks left.

Round 1 - Pick 30 - Miami Heat Empty Re: Round 1 - Pick 30 - Miami Heat

Post by orangeparka (MIA) Fri Mar 07, 2014 12:31 am

Sorry guys, like I said, there was uncertainty with how my pick would be handled.

Originally I exceeded the hard cap because of cap holds last offseason, so we instituted a rule that if you exceed it at any time you lose a first. So I didn't even think about having it until recently.

But then we abolished said rule (see Financials thread), which is where the confusion arose from.

I contacted Myles and Dylan about it, but let's understand that they're not machines that are on 24/7 to respond to every inquiry/mix-up.

They don't have to be machines, the responsibility was on you to know this pre-draft or even if there was a single doubt, not on them to respond to your confusion last minute.

You coulda asked Fran Frischella, Jay Bilas or any other draft guru that was covering the draft "live" about this.

That's not on the commishes. Bad analysis right there buddy.

My comment wasn't about this pick. Just the first round overall as pick 1 was March 1 I think.

Jesus I'm sorry man. You want me to beg on my knees or what? It honestly didn't occur to me until I checked the draft board (which I regularly do to see how fast the draft might move) recently.

Like I said, the pick was forfeited an entire game year ago, so it was completely out of my mind.

If you're insinuating that I took time to draft then whatever. I didn't even workout late guys (only in the 10s/early 20s range), so Payne, mocked in the lottery I think, was the only one that I had any workout info on. I could've made this pick ages ago, I just wanted to be sure.

If I were wrong then we'd be all up in arms because I made a pick that was forfeited and messed up the order of the draft.

Thought for certain Orlando would take him, when they passed I thought Minny coulda used a guy like Payne to backup Love but they went with a shooter in Thomas to backup Parsons, I passed cause I like what Balvin can bring for what I need not to mention I got a young workhorse PF in Tristan Thompson so it'd have been redundant so it was the perfect storm for Payne to land in Miami. Great value and pick and player to go last in the 1st rd.

Yeah and I passed because I liked Tarc and believe he will be a great trade asset. Same with Micic, believe he could be moved during next season. thats why I drafted a backup PG for the case Micic could be moved.
Anyway, great pick at #30, no question.

When I talked about the speed of the draft it wasn't only because of this pick OP. Sorry if it came off that way. The first 30 picks felt like it took forever.

That's because it did. This has been the slowest first round of any forum draft I've ever been in, and the second round will probably take a long time as well.

It's one of the reasons why in GAH, I switched to (and what I'll be implementing in NAH), forum draft for the first round, and then live draft for the second round.

Round 1 - Pick 30 - Miami Heat Empty Re: Round 1 - Pick 30 - Miami Heat

Post by WillyJakkz (ORL) Fri Mar 07, 2014 5:29 pm

The drafts on RealGM GMaT games went from giving guys 6hrs to 1hr draft times and guys would send in pre-lists or get autopicked or skipped if they missed their pick.

I know this is a different "animal" but to ask a new guy to join the League, be interactive, post about his team and how they look forward to participating then check in periodically on a draft that's supposed to be fun and an important aspect of the game for their franchise just to wait a week to get to pick blindly or in the 2nd rd is not a positive reinforcement for them to return.

Hate to say it...

You are right! Actually the draft is really annoying. Most of us are always checking in to make their picks but #4, #11, #21, #30, #32 just killed the flow. I took a look and those 5 picks needed ~4 days.

Yeah, by rule they have 24hrs so looking at it from that perspective it's not outlandish but the vets shouldn't be the ones postponing the draft, if anything the new guys should be the ones to take the most time.but as stated, it's not necessarily the GM's taking too long "per se", it's the time limit, way too long, the draft coulda realistically taken 1 month for the 1st rd if guy used their alotted time.

Most forum drafts in leagues I've been in, the first round takes anywhere from 3-7 days.
