Round 1 - Pick 17 - Miami Heat Empty Round 1 - Pick 17 - Miami Heat

Post by orangeparka (MIA) Tue Mar 04, 2014 4:14 am

It was getting heated in the MIA war room...

"Center A is blah blah!"

Lol jk.

With the 17th pick in the 2014 CSL Draft, the Miami Heat select AJ Hammons from Purdue.

We were really high on Hammons throughout the year, and wasn't quite sure he'd be there at our original pick (#14), which was partly why we traded it, but we're glad to be able to pick him up with our second one.

If you know the Miami Heat, we loved high FG% and efficient big men, and Hammons fits that description as he's simply a force down low with intimidating size at 7'0", 260 lbs. He really gives us that big post scorer that we've lacked.

We like the potential he shows on both ends, and while he'll never be a great rebounder, we hope he can develop well and be a key piece for us down the road.

One of the guys I considered at #10 (the second center mentioned).  We have similar tastes in efficiency and if Hammons didn't suck at rebounding, I'd probably have taken him.  His defense is raw as a ho right now, but should be a good shotblocker, possibly even great. Easily the best value pick in the draft so far.

Nice pick, actually thought he'd be off the board by now but gotta say I didn't see this coming due to the Gobert trade.

Not impressed by the article at all. Hammons will serve an 82 game suspension with a no trade clause Wink

Yeah his rebounding is subpar, unfortunately. I worked him out a ton, but unluckily his SCR were very similar and didn't help me much deviation-wise, but I'm hoping it's pretty good. Everywhere else he seemed fine.

Yeah, like I said, didn't think he'd be available which is why I moved #14, so we're in yet another big man logjam with Gobert also on board. We'll have to figure something out.

I'll have a wiretap up sometime haha. Didn't wanna slow down the draft, so just briefly wrote down my thoughts.

Yeah I will add an Insider too after the draft.
Just too many picks and moves.. Already busy enough to manage our roster spots.

Wish Chicago had taken Hammons so he didn't fall into your lap. Don't like to see you add another scoring threat to that already dangerous roster.

I think hes a steal at this point and thought the Bulls would take him. He was someone who I thought could have went Top 10.

I believe he's a steal. But have to admit I hate his inability to rebound..
