Okafor Resigns with Hawks

Emeka Okafor has officially resigned with the Atlanta Hawks. After long negotiations, Emeka determined that the Hawks were truly the only team for him.

"I'm thrilled to head back to Atlanta, for hopefully the rest of my career. GM BlackIce and the rest of the Hawks organization showed me a lot of respect and loyalty and I couldn't be happier to go back."

The official terms of the contract are as follows: 5 years, $8 million a year for $40 million total.

Would have loved to have been able to sign Okafor. Would have played perfectly next to Davis.

Wow, can't say I was expecting that. He's a good center obviously, but he's like 31 this season. Definitely wasn't expecting that much over five years nonetheless.

That's over $51m for four big men. I smell a trade.

Oh boy, 5 years? That could be rough in the last 2 years.

But 8/yr is pretty good.

8M is nice, don't get me wrong. But he's going to produce 2-3 more good seasons (while start declining). In 3 seasons that might be the worst contract of the game.
At least now, he's worth every penny and more.

I think my offer to him was 3-years at the MLE. I was not giving him more years than that.

A good player, but I think thats more than I would throw up for him.

Yeah, I would not throw so much cash at him, at this age... but he is a good player and will make the Hawks better
