Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
A pairing every CSL fan has dreamed of seeing. Kobe Bryant has agreed to a deal with the Indiana Pacers, making the dream of a Lebron and Kobe pairing a reality.
The deal for Kobe is for 4 years, starting at around $8.3 million, totaling around $35 million.
Kobe averaged 19.3 points and 4.4 assists last season as a member of the Bobcats and Lakers.

Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
The Indiana Pacers are thrilled to welcome Kobe Bryant on a 4-year deal worth $35M. Lebron and Kobe are a dream pairing, and there's more to come!
Deal is as follows: [edited with correct numbers] 8,319,992 / 8,642,792 / 8,965,592 / 9,288,392. 3.88% raises for a total salary of 35,216,768. Final year is a player option.
This uses every dollar of cap space freed up by the Dragic deal.
Welcome Kobe Bryant!

Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
Kobe has two years left. 3rd is a maybe. He'll be retired by the 4th.
I was very worried about the decline in his handles. It would have relegated him to SF on my team, had MKG not been anchoring that position. It's really strange to me that Kobe has such low handles in the game.
Anyways, you're going all in. I love it.

It doesn't bother me too much. He'll have two very good ball-handlers around him, one being Lebron James. He'll be alright.Sun Scorched (CHA) wrote:Kobe has two years left. 3rd is a maybe. He'll be retired by the 4th.

This is the best storyline of the league this season, IMO.

He will be great for you this year, and maybe the next, but he's going to retire soon. A 4 year deal is really risky, because in all likelihood, you'll have two years of 8 million dollars in dead cap counting against you.

Nice move. I wasn't expecting it.
Still, I wouldn't do it. Having LeBron is a risk. Having LeBron AND Kobe (specially on a 4 year deal), man, it can backfire REALLY hard.
Anyway, you improve your chances of being champion. You gotta have lots of courage to do it.

Congrats on adding Kobe - great move for Indy
I am personally very happy that he did not end up on a West team

Great for this year, but with Kobe and Dirk declining + LBJ opting out it will backfire heavily. In two years from now you are Memphis.

Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
How could he bid that much if he is 20M under the cap and then resigned Lance Stephenson, tkes money in Lebricks move, also in Dirk's...
That's no possible. Or the salaries aren't updated or do not know, anyway I think IND couldn't bid that much...
Sorry if I'm wrong.

IND had some cap left after the Stephenson signing. Looking at Myles sheet ~4m. Trading away dragic they got another ~4m. Didnt calculate in detail, but looking at it in a hurry it works IMO.
EDIT: just saw the sheet is Old! Still not updated because millsap & Co. Are still on the roster. But I believe the Agent calculated himself, so it should be fine.

Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
I re-signed Lance, then I lost out on Danny Granger, waiving his enormous cap hold. That alone took me below the cap. Then the OKC trade happened, followed by the Dragic to Charlotte deal, giving me a total of 8.77M, of which I used every last dollar on Kobe. Then I made the S&T for Dirk, giving up just enough salary for the deal to be legal. And yes, that includes the dead $3.09M salary left over from the previous GM. (I believe that's Jason Kidd's salary?)Querejeta (WAS) wrote:How could he bid that much if he is 20M under the cap and then resigned Lance Stephenson, tkes money in Lebricks move, also in Dirk's...

Wow, huge signing here by Indiana. I don't think Kobe will play a 4th season and could be a detriment by the 3rd but after making a deal to get LeBron you have got to go all in. Good luck!

Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
IND
Starting Offseason Salary Cap -$ 20.952.211
1.- Renounces
Danny Granger $ 21.032.682
Chris Andersen $ 1.622.617
Marco Bellinelli $ 1.283.410
Chris Wilcox $ 1.622.617
Gustavo Ayón $ 2.250.000
Lance Stephenson $ 1.860.000 (just to add his resign new contract)
Salary Cap after Renouncements +$ 8.719.105
2.- Lance Stephenson’s resign -$4.900.000
Salary Cap after Resign +$ 3.819.105
Do not know if +$ 3.819.105 would be enoguh to make a 8.6M offer but... will see what the commish say, anyway you the GM's should not bid if they are have not the money because they only make negociations to interrupt with other teams.
If I calculated wrong sorry, but I tryed to make it the best way, and took me some time.
It's nothing personal but the interest in Kobe from WAS from where had better contract less lenght.

They traded Dragic and generated every single bit of CAP they needed to make this work.

Better talk when knowing, like I try to do.
3.- Trades
OKC- IND Total $$$ Received: 33.125.096
Total $$$ Sent: 32.668.491
Total:-$ 456.605
CHA-IND Total $$$ Received: 7,500,000
Total $$$ Sent: 2,542,548
Total:+$ 4.957.453
Salary Cap after Trades +$ 8.319.953
Not yet 8.6M. And anyway this was after, how could you bid if having this arrenged, then everyone waiting for him to have the cap...

And more,...
DEN- IND Total $$$ Received: 10.000.000
Total $$$ Sent: 7.158.180
Total:-$ 2.951.820
Salary Cap after DEN Trade +$ 5.368.133
Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
Bryant signing happened before the Nowitzki trade.
Still, I'm coming up with $8,319,952 in cap space for the Pacers before the Bryant signing, so maybe there needs to be an adjustment.

I also bid for him and had my calculs to make the possible bids, if other GM do not that has to be regulated...
Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
Trouble in paradise...
Great catch Washington, it is looking like the salaries don't align correctly and if so I'm not sure Kobe waits unless the Pacers move a player to a team with capspace to help them out, if not...

I really bother about this man, because also if that's fair...
The trade doesn't match the 1,25 rule for cap space 0 or minus.
Dylan (SAC) wrote:• A team over the cap can trade salaries up to 125% + $100,000 of the value they are trading. Trading away $5,000,000 means a team can take back $6,350,000 without breaking any rules.
7.158.180 * 1,25 = 8.947.725, not 10M.
I'm getting informed, not just talking.
Re: Dream Team? Kobe joins LeBron in Indiana
I may be wrong, but I thought it broke down as follows:
Under the cap - can use cap space to absorb higher salary.
Under the tax - 1.50x incoming salaries
Over the tax - 1.25x incoming salaries
So I think IND should be able to absorb 1.5x the salary going out.

Big signing. I would have thought a non scorer would be a better fit though.
I reckon Indy will have a tough time retaining LeBron if this fails.
