Ricky Rubio Inks Long Term Deal with Jamal in New York



In perhaps a less than shocking (yet lucrative) twist for the young Spaniard, "Pretty" Ricky Rubio has inked a maximum contract extension with the New York Knicks.  Rubio is averaging 17.5 points, 14.4 assists and 3.9 steals per game.  All easily career highs, the young point guard looks to only be improving.

Ricky Rubio wrote:"I'm very excited to play in New York with Jamal and my team.  I think that, like all kids when I was little and, you know, you watch players like MJ or Magic and you think, you know, I want to be like them, I want to be playing in the CSL.  And now I am and I'm playing for New York and it is exciting.  Jamal really impressed me with his presentation and with what his plans are for this team.  You know, we're playing well and I want to continue playing the best basketball I can."

Ricky's extension will begin after this season.  Starting at the maximum salary level for players with less than six years of CSL experience ($13,668,750), the contract contains maximum raises (7.5%) and totals $60,825,938 over four years.

Boom! And the first one bites.

This obviously made too much sense, and you knew Jamal wasn't going to let his prized PG get anywhere close to free agency.

Yeah, it made so much sense, after giving up a lot for him.
He certainly deserved.

Great news for the Knicks franchise as Rubio has instantly propelled himself into the upper echelon of CSL players and kept, if not boosted the Knicks chances at representing the East.

Very happy to sign a young player like Ricky long term.
We had no doubt we wanted him to become the franchise player of the Knicks, and we let him know it from day 1.

At 17.5 points, 14.4 assists, 3.9 steals and 5.2 rebounds per game, he also leads all PGs in efficiency so far this season, and just set the CSL history most asists in a game record with 27 dimes.
But more importantly, he's leading the team to a great start of the season, as he also makes his teammates better.
