Kosta Koufos Commits to New York, Long-Term
Kosta Koufos and the New York Knicks have come to an agreement that will keep the big guy from hitting the free agent market this upcoming summer. After locking up Ricky Rubio long-term, Jamal set his sights on his efficient bench big man. Kosta will sign a 4-year extension starting at $6 million with maximum raises. The contract totals $26.7 million over the duration.
Kosta is averaging 12.9 points per game in only 22 minutes at a blistering 56.3% from the field. Per36, Kosta is eclipsing the 20 point per game mark.

Re: Kosta Koufos Commits to New York, Long-Term
We're pretty happy to lock a player of Kostas' caliber for the long term.
Still age 25, Koufos will be part of our young core next to Rubio. It's not easy finding a reliable big man, and we've found a perfect fit for our team in this 7 feet Greek center.
He's having a tremendous year as our 6th man off the bench, and he's also a reliable starter whenever needed.
Once again nice dealing with SCDP. Both sides wanted the same and we got it: Kostas' gets the nice long term contract he was seeking, and we get back our young center.

Easy decision with his great recent play, actually I recall him having some big games for you last yr also.

Scary amount of money to give a bench big man. I think Rubio's play could get a lot of bench players to look as good as Koufos has this season but Jamal knows what's best for his squad. I hope this contract doesn't come back to bite you guys.

Like Rizzo said it could be rubio is really elevating Kostas game. But on the other hand Kosta already shot 54% from the field last year and grabbed a solid amount of rebounds.

He better be giving half of this money to Ricky because I don't think any other player would make him look as good as he has.

Re: Kosta Koufos Commits to New York, Long-Term
Kostas might be getting more touches, but he was already pretty efficient last year too.
Also, same as is happening with Bosh, I've focused on instructing them two (they both increased nicely last month).
Last year all my instructions went to Lin, Parsons, Jamaal, Asik mainly.
And yeah, he's technicaly a bench player, but also our main man off the bench, and I always like to have one or two bench players playing big minutes. I do want to test Ezeli a bit, but appart from that I'm running a 3 man rotation for PF and C positions, so Koufos will get plenty of minutes and opportunities this year off the bench. And the idea is that he could become a starter too in the near future, so that's why we locked him up.
I agree it might be an overpay tough, nothing wrong to recognize that. I really don't mind paying for the players I really want, so I'm really pleased with the signing

Koufos is playing excellent basketball this season.
Yeah, his contract may be higher than what he deserves, and may hurt you long term. But it's very affordable, and as long as he plays with Rubio, he'll produce up to how much he's paid.
Honestly, looking at his productions not only now but in the past season, I'd have done the same here. Nice move Jamal.
