He's Back! Tyreke Returns to SacTown
Kings Acquire Tyreke Evans from Hornets
It's only been about two years, but it's been long enough. The Sacramento Kings acquired Tyreke Evans on Saturday, in a three team deal with the Charlotte Hornets and Oklahoma City Thunder. The deal saw JR Smith, JJ Barea and Aaron Gray leave Sacramento for Oklahoma City, and will bring Evans back for his second stint with the Kings.
The former Rookie of the Year, Evans has become quite successful since leaving the Kings. After signing a max contract, Evans became an all-star for the first time in his career last season, and hopes to have much of the same success back in Sacramento.
On a conference call after the trade was announced, Evans said:
Tyreke Evans wrote:I can't wait. I never really wanted to leave the first time when the Kings traded me away, but now with new management, ownership and an entire new team, I can't wait to come back. We've got a lot of talent here with Ed, Jahii, Michael and everyone else. I'm really excited about this opportunity.
In a press conference announcing the deal, Kings GM Dylan said:
Dylan wrote:Tyreke is a dynamic, versatile wing who's a proven star in the CSL. He can do anything and everything offensively, and can certainly hold his own defensively. He'll be great for this team and locker room, and will certainly be a featured player in our offense. We're confident he will come in here and immediately make his presence made.
For a team that severely lacks talent, this trade is a big one for the Kings. They've been relying on Austin Rivers and JR Smith (who was part of the deal) as wings, and while they've both done well individually, it hasn't led to wins. Adding an all-star, will not only be an upgrade in talent, but gives Sacramento a face of the franchise and a player to build around.
It's unknown what the Kings lineup will look like now, but our guess will be a lineup featuring the sixth pick in this years draft Jahii Carson at point guard, Austin Rivers will stick at the off-guard, Evans at small forward, the 12th pick in this years draft Dario Saric at power forward, and Ed Davis at center. A much more talented unit when adding Evans to the mix.

I did not give you any opinion about that move since you were negotiating directly with SS.
To me this move is great IF you have CAP space to add more players to the mix.
Tyreke is an upgrade over JR, no doubt, but he earns twice more. So, after all, you may have improved slightly and paying a lot to do so, and you even lost a 1st round pick.
But if you have CAP to add more to the mix, than adding quality is always great for a young team. One more step towards a bright future.
Now it's time to think about moving one of your PGs to consolidate at any other position.
And then you add a 3rd piece at FA and suddenly your team has WAY more talent than now.
You're doing everything a great GM would do to improve his team. Appreciate your effort, great work Dylan!

I have about $19 million in cap space for next off-season.

Dylan is one of the master GMs of CSL so I was shocked to read that he is taking on this challenge. Tyreke is great no doubt but he is an absolute usage killer while not being that efficient, a TO machine and on a max deal. He was an all-star with the Blazers because I am not very good. I only figured out that he belonged on the bench around Feb. Both SS and I failed with him - lets see what Dylan can do

So I think you did great. Young teams just want to improve while not losing their flexibility (CAP / young assets), and you did just that.
Great job!

Great move, this plays into the whole minute equity concept. You have ample minutes to develop Reke that would have gone to Smith so it's worth the risk. Your minutes are also an asset so it's good to see you make this move.

If you are able to pair him up with Ed Davis/a stud big man and a very good point guard, this could work. You've got the capital to make it happen so we will see if Evans can channel his RoY caliber play now that he's back in a Sacramento uniform.

Tyreke is absolutely talented. Carson, Reke, Saric, Davis and Rivers doesnt look bad.
I believe there is another trade incoming with Saric/MCW/x leaving for a win now PG/PF/C? Would make sense.
