Re: Offseason Questions
How can we make offers for in-game players? After all the PA guys have signed?

Tell Dylan and I. We'll put the players requested on an agency.

Re: Offseason Questions
Just wondering guys..
Don't know where to post it, so I'm doing it here since Dylan / Myles are always looking here.
Any chance real NBA influence CSL? I mean, rating updates on youngsters on the rise @ NBA, things like this.. I'm asking because it was fairly common on other sims to have rating updates following NBA, or even when the sim had it's own story, at least the commissioners would boom some youngsters who where late picks (like Isaiah Thomas or Jimmy Butler) so they can perform close to real life..

Re: Offseason Questions
I don't think that gets done here and I think I would be against boosting ratings based on real life NBA performances.

Re: Offseason Questions
I've never been in a sim where it was based on NBA performance, I wouldn't like that at all. Actually don't think I'd want to even participate if that were the case lol

Re: Offseason Questions
I do prefer the DDSPB3 that rewards players and make them progress according to their playing time..
I was just asking, because I participated in some that boosted players as they played well in NBA.
But I prefer the way it's handle here, based on potential and minutes on court. Just fine for me.

Also, if i want to extend Tobias Harris - does he have an agent? Or do we still extend the old fashioned way?

Great question andrei. I'd like extend the contract of Rajon Rondo.

Re: Offseason Questions
We will not be boosting based on NBA. It's our own story, our own league.
Extensions will happen after free agency. All extensions will go through one agency.

Re: Offseason Questions
And when does FA finish? Because some players are playing with time too much. They need to have a limit to take or leave some offers...
Re: Offseason Questions
It finishes when it finishes. We are starting to press on the agents to make decisions faster but at the same time, we have to be considerate and aware of the different GMs we have in different time zones who are competing for players. It wouldn't be fair to just cut off one of the GMs during the negotiation process because he took too long, when in reality he might have just been asleep in his country or busy at work. Real life does take precedence and we don't want to make this league unfair for anyone.

Re: Offseason Questions
What about contract buyouts? Now that there are agencies, would we be able to buyout a player like in the NBA?

Re: Offseason Questions
No. We want to keep this league as grounded in the game as possible. The more we edit and screw around with the database, the more likely we are to mess something up or corrupt the file.

As one of the offshored GMs, I appreciate Myles' concern. I do want to add, however, that I'd prefer the FA period to be finished sooner rather than later

Re: Offseason Questions
The agents want this process to go as quickly as possible too. We've been told to be patient and fair though, as fair to all general managers is more important than finishing quickly but leaving people out.

Re: Offseason Questions
So, is FA finished soon?
I believe we should get a deadline, or do we already have one and I missed it?
FA is now running two weeks and its getting pretty boring.

I get the feeling it is winding down too. I'm hoping that we can close up shop on free agency in the next couple days and get on to the season!

Yeah its winding down, no doubt, but it would be great to have an official deadline.

Re: Offseason Questions
So... What the heck is with all these 2 year vet min deals to players with options? That's really hampering the purpose and intention of the veteran's minimum and really making it difficult for people to fill out their rosters.
I think we've confused what the point of a vet min deal is, especially when it comes to these younger players. What guy in his prime would sign any type of vet min deal for 2 years? That's one less year he's able to collect on a payday in the middle of his career.
I get it when it comes to older players, but do me a favor and look around the contracts in the NBA. 95% of these vet min deals are for one year. Just because a player is getting a potential two year contract, doesn't mean it's a good contract for him.
Vet min deals should be used to find a player a place to play for that year, with a chance to prove themselves in a situation that fits them so they can land themselves a bigger deal. 2 year vet min deals are a rarity, they shouldn't be the standard.
I shouldn't be having to send out 2 year vet min deals with options to get some back end rotation scrub, just to essentially be told "sorry another offer has a player option so that's a bit better than a team option" once that player signs with a player option.

Re: Offseason Questions
True, but the issue here is that these players aren't going to get to "prove" themselves when their coming off 82 DNPs because they are buried on someones bench as security.
Also, it's obvious the key source of frustration is that you don't want to commit $1m+ to a guy you don't value much for the next season, because that will cut into cap space.
That's why, if you're offering a 2 year vet min deal with a PO, as a ton of folks have done, the player is able to weigh his options and decide if there is a better payday out there for him or not next offseason. If not, he's still got a chance to make some decent money on the min.

Re: Offseason Questions
PO's are decided way before free agency, so how would that player even get to gauge his value before he needs to decide if he should just return.
That's a real life advantage that can't be quantified in the engine, so it is merely just a way for teams to ensure a signing, which isn't right.

The engine will dictate PO - much like it did with Amare and Channing. That's something we won't be able to impact. If FREE AGENT X got a 2-year vet min contract with a PO and the engine thinks he's worth more than that, it will opt him out of the player option prior to free agency.
