2014 Swish Mock Draft - Pick #12 (NOP)

With the 12th overall pick in the 2014 Swish Mock Draft, the New Orleans Pelicans select Vasilije Micic from Serbia.



At this point in the draft, the Pelicans take Micic and say "thank you very much" to the teams that passed on him. While PG certainly isn't their biggest need, it's unsure how GM Rizzo views Greivis Vasquez as a long-term asset, especially considering his pending free agency. Micic brings another big PG, which is always useful next to a smaller SG like Marcus Smart, and a guy who has the potential to be a good passer with a nice all-around game. He has a decent outside game and doesn't take a lot of shots, so he fits well next to Smart long-term in that regard.

For the 12th pick, he's very good value for the team.

Was very interested to see who you mocked to me. I will say that he has been scouted by the Pelicans.

I think Micic could be a lottery pick for the right team, but I don't think NOLA is it. He's a decent floor general with a pretty low ceiling. I think it'd be smarter to look at a center or a small forward (Saric, Muhammad) with their pick.

I know exactly who Rizzo wants and, if someone is willing to trade me a pick for Sullinger ahead of #12, if gladly select the player.

Saric is already taken in this scenario. Muhammad maybe, but another scorer next to Smart isn't a good fit. AD is capable and played the 5 all year and with Anderson on board, I assumed NOP would continue that trend.

But NOLA is a really young team with huge potential, so my thought process is why go safe here? Try to hit another home run. Get another high potential guy.

Maybe. He has the two best prospects in the league though. If I'm him, I start buildilng around them instead.

Two things from pov:

1: OP nailed it once again, I see the Pelicans selecting Micic and letting Greivis go or S&T'ing him since I view Micic as Greivis 2.0

Or

2: The Pelicans if they wanna start getting serious the time is now to package that pick with someone and make legit move for a SF or PF (if AD is gonna be the C), no two ways around it in my book.

In the case that we do draft Vasilije Micic, adopting those pink jerseys isn't an option...it's a NECESSITY!
